Art Scene Today Competitions are  international monthly online competitions and exhibitions that serve to recognize and honor excellence in the visual arts, as well as  to provide exposure and marketing opportunities to emerging artists around the world. Artists who are selected as finalists benefit from exposure in a month-long online exhibition on artscenetoday.com and the printed Art Scene Today Exhibition Catalogue.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION: There will be a different theme each month covering a variety of subject matters and issues of the day.  Only artwork that effectively addresses the theme will be included in the final exhibition.  The winners and finalists will be chosen on the overall merit of the work and excellence in demonstrating the theme.

ELIGIBILITY:  Open to all emerging artists 18+ from around the world  with original works - painting, digital, sculpture and photography, done in the past 2 years.  Work need not be available for sale. Each theme may have other specific criteria.

AWARDS: 

  • 1st place winner will be the cover artist on the Art Scene Today Exhibition Catalogue, be the Featured Artist on the artscenetoday.com homepage for 4 weeks and have an ongoing Featured Artist Profile Page. 
  • 2nd PLACE WINNER will be the artwork on the back cover of the Art Scene Today Exhibition Catalogue, be the Featured Artist on the artscenetoday.com homepage for 3 weeks and have an ongoing Featured Artist Profile Page. 
  • 3rd PLACE WINNER will be the Featured Artist on the artscenetoday.com homepage for 1 week and have an ongoing Featured Artist Profile Page. 
  • All selected entries will appear in the artscenetoday.com online Juried Exhibition section and in the Art Scene Today Exhibition Catalogue.

    • IMAGE REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPETITION: Images must be submitted in JPG format, 72 DPI, no larger than 450 x 600 pixels.  Each image should be titled with your Name, AND the TITLE of the artwork being submitted (e.g. Adrian Roman-OTHER SIDE OF DARKNESS.jpg). 

    IMAGE REQUIREMENTS FOR CATALOGUE: If selected for the Exhibition Catalogue, high resolution images, 300 DPI and no larger than 5MB in size, must be submitted for inclusion.

    WINNERS & FINALISTS:   Winners and finalists will be notified within 3 days after the closing of the competition, with an email requesting a more detailed Artist Statement, artist info (website, etc.) and high resolution images.

    RIGHTS:  The artists keep copyrights to their images.  Art Scene Today maintains ownership and rights of the catalogue. By entering the competition, artists give express rights for ArtSceneToday.com to exhibit entries, winners and finalists in any and all ArtSceneToday properties, including, but not limited to: ArtSceneToday.com, ArtSceneToday Exhibition Catalogue, ArtSceneToday Facebook/LinkedIn/Twitter and other social media.  For exhibitions at physical galleries/public spaces and events, the original art is displayed at the artist's risk and unless sold is returned to the artist, at the artist's expense. 

    COMMISSION:  If artwork is sold as a result of an Art Scene Today online or gallery exhibition, AST will charge a commission: 20% for online exhibits and 25% for physical gallery shows.  In the months ahead, artists will be able to sell their artwork with membership to the Art Scene Today Online Gallery.  In the meantime, art sales from the site will work on an honor system.

    CATALOGUE: Scene Today will handle printing expenses of the Art Scene Today Exhibition Catalogue. While there is no additional charge to the artist to be included in the Catalogue, AST maintains ownership of the catalogue and will sell them to defray printing costs. The Catalogue will be available for purchase at the end of the exhibition, around 4-6 weeks after artists receive notification of acceptance.
