artist statement

I found a way to express how it feels to be a mother in precarious situations, which I know a lot about.  The work which won first place, Hoops of Fire, was difficult for me, I thought of not doing it, of backing out, of not showing it, because it might offend someone, but then I decided that all my work meant nothing without that image.  I was therefore very happy when it won first place.

bio

I am a moonlight artist.   I work as a legal secretary, am a single working mother (now my daughter is in college).  I draw because I have to, it is both my passion and my refuge.  I am 61 years old and just getting started in my second life.  I was trained as a photographer at Hull House in Chicago, Illinois, but otherwise have no artistic training, just a great, great interest.
