artist statement

I strive for Impressionistic Realism and choose subjects from my own photography. Using hi-res macro shots allows me to focus in on images of flowers and plants that most people are not used to seeing.  Instead of just painting a typical rose bloom, I am more intrigued by the buds and thorns and uniquely shaped leaves.  I hope that when people view my paintings, they ask, “What is that?” at first glance.

"Seeing Red" would have worked as an alternate title for my painting.  I painted this as part of my "Seven Moods of a Flower" series and Visceral Reaction illustrates an emotional reaction.  This could be sudden anger, fear, insight or desire.

artist bio

Bayberry showed promise as an artist from an early age and won awards including a regional art contest for her painting.  However, she focused on music performance for undergraduate studies and played in the symphony. She then obtained her Master's Degree in International Marketing.  While living in New York, Bayberry became active in local art groups. She produced original prints, silk scarves and jewelry for local boutiques and craft fairs.

Bayberry found a new avenue for her creative energies by using her photography to capture macro shots of flowers and then choosing the best for painting. She has collected thousands of photographs of unique flowers while traveling to over 40 countries and has selected the most worthy to recreate in paint.  This reignited her love of painting and she has since been actively expanding her portfolio and participating in juried local, national and international art events.  Her series of floral paintings was exhibited in one-woman shows at the Atlanta & Memphis Botanical Gardens.

art scene today Q & A

Q: Where do you see yourself in the art scene today?
A:  I am an artist who has produced a body of work that has been praised by critics and featured in shows and galleries.

Q: What is in your inspiration?
A: I am always on the lookout for inspiration. I find it often from my travels and from my own photography.

Q: What are your challenges?
A: I am not able to paint full time so I must be highly selective about what I choose to paint next.

Q: How did you/do you choose your medium?
A: The background is done in acrylic since it has the ability to quickly dry in the pools and splatters featured.  However, I painted the flower itself with oil, which allows very subtle layering of colors.

Q: Which artist has influenced you the most?
A:  Singer Sargent.
