about linda troeller

Linda Troeller is a New York-based award-winning professional art photographer whose focus has been an exploration of female sexuality. She co-authored two books with Marion Schneider – the pioneering volume, Erotic Lives of Women (Scalo, 1998) and Orgasm: Photographs and Interviews (Daylight, 2014) that portrays women's feelings about orgasm through personal narratives and photographs..  Recently, "Maria,"  a photograph from Orgasm  won Honorable Mention at the London Erotic Women's website. To continue activism on removing the shame and opening the dialogue on what is public and private, the role of sex positive realm and protection for women's sexualty, the authors have a blog for contributions www.orgasmproject.info.  Issues of sexuality,  self-identity, healing and  place are the focus of her images. 

Her Aperture book, Healing Waters won Honorable Mention and one of the photographs won Pictures of the Year 1st Place Pictorial.  She is a member of Agence Vu, Paris and evolved an international presence blending fine art and editorial style in magazines world-wide. Spa Journeys, 2004 was published by powerHouse Books and her  photographs are in the collections of the University of Texas, Austin; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; the Smithsonian Museum; among other venues. She exhibited Self-Portrayal, a collection of self-portraits, at Ververs Gallery, Amsterdam, and won an IPA Award 2009 for “Self-Portraiture.” A documentary on her career photography, "Inside the Frame: Linda Troeller," was just released by Canadian filmmaker, Jeff McKay.  

Her years spent living at the historic Chelsea hotel, most known for its notable residents, was evocatively documented in her acclaimed book, Chelsea Hotel: An Artist's Memoir. The photos were exhibited at the hotel and other venues including  at the F-stop Festival, Leipzig, Germany.  It will be an expanded book  scheduled for publication in 2016 from Schiffer Publishers. 

She won the Women of Achievement Award from Douglass College and has lectured at Yale, PhotoNOLA and universities in Medellin, Colombia and Bournemouth, England. Her vintage photographs were acquired by Toskanaworld for every room of their hotel  when it opened the Summer of 2013 in Bad Orb, Germany. Her work also includes commercial photography for the Apolda Fashion Catalogue in 1999, 2001, and 2005 for the Apolda Museum, Germany.

Linda Troeller has a BS in Journalism from West Virginia School of Media, a MS from Newhouse and MFA School of Art, Syracuse University.  She has taught photography at Stockton University, Parson's, NY and been a visiting lecturer at Yale, New Orleans Photo Alliance, and the Salzburg Summer Art Academy.
