bio

Born in Budapest, Hungary, Ava Rado Harte emigrated to the United States after the Hungarian Revolution in 1956.  Settling in New York, Ava became involved in the art world in several capacities as a painter, photographer, filmmaker, exhibition curator, events organizer and arts administrator at Vorpal Gallery in SoHo.

Her work was exhibited in several one-woman shows in SoHo galleries as well as in group exhibitions at the Fine Arts Museum of Long Island, New York, All Florida Biennial-Polk Museum of Art in Lakeland, Florida, the New Capitol Gallery and the Rotunda Gallery in Tallahassee and the OceolaCenter for the Arts in Kissimmee, Florida.

In 1989 she moved to Miami Beach, Florida and quickly became part of the burgeoning artworld in the area. A noted achievement is a mosaic representation and cultural translation of Puerto Rican image Mystic Cool Puerto Rican Days set into the sidewalk by the City of Miami Department of Development along NW 2°d Avenue,  in the artistic Wynwood area of Miami. An accomplished designer, she was contracted by major local retailers, like Fendi's and Romanoff's, to develop window displays and commissioned to sculpt a large stainless steel Christmas Tree for the Lincoln Road Partnership. She studied the auction house and how it relates to the art market while working in Sotheby’s in Miami.

In 1990 she opened the RADO Gallery featuring local emerging and established contemporary artists. One of the gallery’s exhibition “Graffiti is Art” received community attention and brought about awareness of graffiti as an art form. This sparked the development of the Environmental Working Group by the Juvenile Justice Committee’s Self-Esteem Task Force to come of with creative ideas to divert energies and the talent of the kids who deface property in Miami-Dade County to creating murals. The RADO Gallery published its first art publication in 1992 titled “The Collected Poems of Cyril Thomas” which was designed and published by Ava Rado Harte.

Driven by a desire to make a difference in the community, in 1995 she founded and became Producing Artistic Director of The Center for Emerging Art, a 501(c)3 non-profit arts organization.  There she has been able to do that by designing community arts programs such as the "Preserving the Legacy" for people with physical and intellectual disabilities in Senior Centers, Assisted Living Facilities, Lighthouse for the Blind and The Hope Center. As a project director, she works hand-in-hand with the resident artists in the development of their own creative expression. She provides basic design and cultural programming for the Center's Outreach Programs within the community. The "Prevention  through the Arts"  program was designed to bring about awareness on the use of drugs and alcohol in partnership with Informed Families and has reinforced the Miami Beach Mayor's campaign to reduce under-age drinking.
